Nella tarda antichità gli "ultimi pagani" e gli gnostici si trovarono nella necessità di elaborare specifiche strategie argomentative per far fronte alla crisi causata dall'avvento e dalla diffusione del Cristianesimo e dal consolidarsi della "Grande Chiesa". I saggi offerti in questo libro indagano le pieghe di un pensiero, tardo ellenico e gnostico, che ripensa e rimodella se stesso, quasi "specchiandosi nell'altro", a scopo di resistenza e di resilienza. In tal modo viene ad assumere valenze non tanto anticristiane, quanto piuttosto post-cristiane, offrendo così - pur nel rispetto dell'ineliminabile distanza storica - aspetti di affinità con il mondo contemporaneo post-cristiano — -back cover.
