Das Werk besteht aus 2 Bänden: Gnostischer Katechismus + Mysterien der Gnosis Die vielschichtigen Lehren und Erscheinungsformen der „Gnosis und des Gnostizismus“ in der Antike und ihre Wiederbelebung und Remythifizierung in neognostischen und okkultistischen Gruppierungen am Ende des 19. und zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts bilden den Kern dieser Publikation. Ausführlich dargestellt wird die „Gnostische Mysterienschule“ des Pastors E. C. H. Peithmann. Zur Einführung in die Ideenwelt dieser Bewegung und als außergewöhnliches zeitgeschichtliches Dokument wird Peithmanns „Gnostischer Katechismus“ von 1904/05 als Reprint neu herausgegeben. Geistige Grundlagen der Mysterienschule bilden sowohl in Parallelen als auch in Differenzen: griechische Philosophie, antiker Gnostizismus, Mysterienkulte, christliche Theosophie, Alchemie, Rosenkreuzer, Kabbala, New Thought, Martinismus, gnostische Kirchen, Lebensreformbewegung u.a. Besondere Berücksichtigung finden „Sexualmystik“ (im Sinne der „Androgynität“ als Mythos vom Urmenschen) und „Sexualmagie“ als sehr unterschiedliche und oft konträre Anschauungsformen einer „sakralen Sexualität“. Vor allem in Verbindung mit den „Lehren des A“ von Oskar R. Schlag ist auch ein Vergleich zwischen dem „Weg der Gnosis“ und den „Lehren des Yoga, Tantrismus und Taoismus“ zu berücksichtigen.
