Soon after the Shah of Persia had been chased out and power had passed to the Ayatollah Khomeini's revolutionaries, the Mandaeans of Iran, having enjoyed complete tranquility under the secular and pro-Western government of Reza Pahlevi, thought it wise to take a precautionary measure in defense of their right to religious freedom under the new regime.
